May is Small Business Month! Small businesses are crucial towards creating a vibrant and thriving community. I’m excited to announce that my office is launching a Small Business Collective in District 3! This will be an opportunity for me to share information about the services and resources the county has to support small businesses. Additionally, this will be a chance for small business owners to share how the county can show up as a better partner. If you are a small business owner in District 3 who might be interested in joining my Small Business Collective, please sign up HERE.
Please feel free to reach out to my office if you have additional comments or questions. We look forward to talking with you.
District 3 Updates
Welcome Doua!

Last week, my interim Aide, Matt Hill completed his time with my office. I’d like to thank Matt Hill for serving as my Aide and assisting with my transition into this new role! Matt will be continuing his service to Ramsey County as he returns to the Sheriff’s office. Thank you, Matt!
With Matt’s departure, I’m thrilled to welcome Doua Yang-Hernandez to the District 3 team as my new Principal Aide! Born and raised in Saint Paul, Doua’s deep roots in the city were nurtured through her childhood experiences in Frogtown, the Eastside, and the West Side, with significant time spent at Neighborhood House where her father worked. As the first daughter, in a family of fifteen, to earn both a bachelor's and master's degree, she inherited a passion for learning, community, and care from her late father, which fueled her early work supporting immigrant and refugee families in Saint Paul. Doua's career has been dedicated to community engagement and public service. Following her work in education non-profits and higher education, she most recently served as Senior Legislative Aide to former St. Paul City Council President Mitra Jalali. Doua lives in Blaine with her husband Jake, son Henry, and two Goldendoodles, Zion and Zoe.
Mental Health Month
My colleagues and I proclaimed May as Mental Health Awareness Month in Ramsey County. Thank you to all the Mental Health Advocates who serve our communities by breaking the stigma and promoting open conversations about mental health and the importance of ones’ wellbeing. The county’s commitment to this work has now expanded through the launch of our new Mental Health Outreach Vehicle. This vehicle will bring crucial mental health support, outreach, wellness resources, and eventually telehealth services directly to neighborhoods throughout Ramsey County. Speaking at the CEO Next Graduation.
I had the pleasure of speaking at the CEO Next graduation. This regional business support program in partnership with Hennepin, Ramsey, Dakota, Scott and Carver counties, provides practical tools and techniques for small business owners with less than 100 employees. This program is more than just an educational journey- it's a powerful step towards securing the economic future of our county and our broader community. Special shout out to one of our Ramsey County participants this year, Amare Solomon who owns Safeway Home Healthcare.
