Ramsey County District One,
I want to take a moment to recognize May as Mental Health Awareness Month—a time to bring much-needed attention to mental well-being, challenge the stigma that too often surrounds it, and encourage open, supportive conversations in our communities.
Mental health is just as essential as physical health, though it is frequently overlooked or misunderstood. Whether it’s anxiety, depression, stress, or other conditions, these challenges are more common than many realize. This month reminds us that caring for our mental health is not only important—it’s necessary. Let’s continue to prioritize it with the same seriousness and compassion we give to any physical health concern.
Sincerely,
Commissioner Jebens-Singh

Addressing Emerging Risks: Cannabis and Psychosis
As cannabis use becomes more prevalent, recent research has highlighted growing concerns around its impact on mental health—particularly in youth. Studies increasingly link high-potency cannabis use with early-onset psychosis, with a 2024 publication showing that up to a quarter of new psychotic disorders in young adults are associated with chronic or heavy cannabis use. These findings underscore the importance of public education and early intervention as part of comprehensive mental health strategies.
