Celebrating American Indian Month: Strong Like Our Ancestors
For over 50 years, Minnesota has celebrated May as American Indian Month. This year’s theme, “Strong Like Our Ancestors,” was created by the Minneapolis Public Schools American Indian Youth Council — Ogichida Oyate. Ramsey County will honor the history, cultures and resilience of American Indian communities with a proclamation on Tuesday, May 6 at 9 a.m. at Saint Paul City Hall - Ramsey County Courthouse. All residents are also invited to take part in events throughout the month — including the Yanpá Spring-Wind Celebration on Saturday, May 24 at the Battle Creek Regional Park pavilion, featuring the Nibi Water Walk and Celebration led by Sharon Day from 8:30 to 11 a.m. and Dakota teachings, art and activities with artists Marlena Myles and Tanágidan Tó Win from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
We encourage residents to join in recognizing and celebrating the contributions and presence of American Indian communities. Learn more about events occurring throughout American Indian Month.

The first half of 2025 property tax payments are due Thursday, May 15. If your tax is $100 or less for real property or $50 or less for personal property, it must be paid in full by May 15.
Payment options
Payments must be postmarked on or before May 15 to avoid penalty. Checks and money orders should be made payable to Ramsey County.
A one-time late payment penalty waiver program is available to taxpayers. It may used one time every 10 years. It applies even if a property owner has used the one-time waiver in the past, and it will not impact the ability to use the waiver in the future.

We’re so grateful for the hard work of our Housing Stability department and the support of community partners who helped keep Ramsey County residents safe and warm during the 2024-25 Winter Warming Spaces season.
Thanks to this partnership, more than 11,600 visits were made to four warming spaces, and over 19,300 rides were provided to help people get there safely.
A big thank you to the city of Saint Paul for opening the doors at the Newell Park Building and Phalen Activity Center, and to Holy Christian Church and Reformation Lutheran Church for generously sharing their space. We also appreciate the continued support from the Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office.
This important work wouldn’t be possible without all of you.
The Community & Economic Development Department has released its 2024 Annual Report showcasing efforts to build a more inclusive economy through investments in affordable housing, small business support and equitable development.
The report highlights partnerships with cities, community organizations and residents that are driving meaningful change across the county.
As part of this continued work, the 2025 affordable housing solicitation is now open. We invite proposals from developers and community partners to create or preserve affordable housing for low- to moderate-income households, including families, seniors and individuals experiencing homelessness.
Together, these initiatives reflect the our ongoing commitment to building stronger, more connected communities.
Applications for housing proposals are due by May 29. Learn more and apply for the solicitation.
Officials from Ramsey County, Arden Hills and Ryan Companies US, Inc. broke ground on the first development at Rice Creek Commons on April 30. The milestone kicks off the first phase of construction on the historic 427-acre site in Arden Hills, which holds an estimated development value of $1 billion. The first building will be the new headquarters for electronics manufacturer Micro Control Company. Ramsey County purchased the former Twin Cities Army Ammunition Plant in 2013 with a vision to clean up, redevelop and return the property to the economic engine it once was — this time as a nation-leading, climate-forward and equitable community with homes, businesses and retail.
