Hello District 3!
Last week, I was officially sworn-in as Ramsey County Commissioner for District 3. I’m truly excited to have this opportunity to serve our community on the county board. To ensure that I am keeping in touch with the district on my work at the county, I will be sending out this newsletter on a regular basis. If you want to learn more about services the county offers, community events you can attend, and my efforts to center economic justice, you’ll get it all here!
As you can see in my remarks after taking office, Tuesday also marked a turning point for local government in our state. With my election, I became the first Black man elected to a county board in the history of the state of Minnesota. Although, this may not have been the reason I ran, it’s not lost on me that my perspective and lived- experience has been missing from this level of our government for too long. I look forward to working with neighbors across our community to ensure that we are building a county for future generations.

Special Thanks to Judge Leonardo Castro for administering the Oath of Office |
Since taking office, I had the opportunity to immediately get to work - joining the Association of MN Counties legislative conference, advocating on our shared county priorities with state legislators, and ending at the National Association of Counties legislative conference building stronger relationships with our federal partners.
At our March 18th county board meeting I voted to approve $5 million in recommended projects for the stabilization and preservation of existing affordable housing. These resources will be critical in the coming year for supporting our residents in need of safe and stable housing. Thank you to our partners for doing this work!
District 3 will be experiencing a number of road construction projects in the 2025 building season. We will work to provide community updates as fast as we can. In the meanwhile, project specific information can be found:
It’s no joke — Ramsey County’s Environmental Center is opening April 1! This new facility will make it easier for residents to reduce, reuse, repair and recycle.
The Environmental Center is located at 1700 Kent Street in Roseville. It will be open year-round, Tuesdays through Fridays, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and closed on county holidays.
All are invited to join the county’s celebrations during Earth week:
Gold Line opening with Ramsey County colleagues
I was excited to join several partners to celebrate the opening of the new METRO Gold Line. This bus rapid transit line will connect Woodbury to downtown St. Paul. Having this bus service ensures that residents have better access to jobs, businesses, and schools.
Be among the first to ride. Courtesy of Ramsey and Washington counties, Gold Line rides will be free through Friday, March 28th.
More information about the Gold Line is found here |
