Mary Sue Hansen Day in Ramsey County
 Commissioner Jebens-Singh along with the rest of the Ramsey County Board of Commissioners declared January 14, 2025, as Mary Sue Hansen Day in Ramsey County. Her commitment to cultivating community partnerships and innovative approaches to addressing social issues have made a lasting impact on the lives of many individuals and families in the community.
Mary Sue Hansen has served as the Executive Director of the Suburban Ramsey Family Collaborative (SRFC) for over 26 years. Mary Sue’s stewardship has led to increased formal and informal resources for children, youth, and families, cultivating intergenerational, cross-cultural and interdisciplinary partnerships and programs. Under her leadership, SRFC has developed, overseen and implemented a comprehensive prevention and early intervention system of care, addressing the needs of those experiencing challenging circumstances in health, education and family stability.
Rice Creek Commons Joint Development Authority
 On January 21st, Commissioner Jebens-Singh participated in her first Rice Creek Commons Joint Development Authority (JDA) meeting, followed by her first JDA work session on February 3rd.
During the meeting, the Board convened to discuss and approve the sustainability guidelines for development on Outlet A. Additionally, the Board reviewed a Concept Plan presented by Ryan Companies, offering feedback on how the proposed project aligns with the established sustainability standards.
In the subsequent work session, JDA Board members further deliberated on the sustainability guidelines, examined the developer agreements, and reviewed the broader JDA roadmap.

Ramsey County Public Works Department
Commissioner Jebens-Singh met with the Ramsey County Public Works team, where she received an overview of their critical responsibilities. The Public Works department oversees a broad spectrum of tasks aimed at ensuring the maintenance and enhancement of the county’s infrastructure. A key focus of their winter operations includes snow removal, alongside managing traffic control and ensuring public safety.
This meeting provided Commissioner Jebens-Singh with a greater understanding of the projects being undertaken in District One and an appreciation for the hard work and dedication of the Ramsey County Public Works team.

Ramsey County Parks Department
 In a meeting with Ramsey County's Parks Department, Commissioner Jebens-Singh had the opportunity to engage with a dedicated and passionate team focused on the preservation and enhancement of the county’s park spaces.
During the discussion, they provided insights into the various ongoing projects in District One and across the county. As they shared their strategic vision for improving the county’s parks, trails, and recreational areas, the interaction underscored the department’s strong commitment to fostering well-being and sustainable outdoor environments for the community.

Ramsey County Sheriffs Contract Cities Discussion
 Commissioner Jebens-Singh visited the Arden Hills Patrol Center for a productive meeting with Undersheriff Ramacher and Sheriff Fletcher. The discussion aimed to deepen the Commissioner’s understanding of the working relationship between the Ramsey County Sheriff's Office (RCSO) and the contract cities it serves.
During the meeting, Sheriff Fletcher and Undersheriff Ramecher shared valuable insights into the logistical and operational aspects of the Sheriff's Office’s support for local municipalities. They provided an overview of how deputies balance their patrols and respond to incidents across the district, as well as the proactive efforts in place to maintain safety levels in the county. The Commissioner was able to ask questions and gain a clearer perspective on law enforcement needs in the area.
Ramsey County League of Local Governments
As an alternate member, Commissioner Jebens-Singh recently attended her first Ramsey County League of Local Governments meeting. A key topic of the meeting was the initiatives being taken by the Climate Action Working Group (CLAW). This is a local effort focused on combating climate change through a series of workshops. These workshops bring together elected officials and organizations to address environmental challenges collaboratively by developing climate adaption frameworks.
The meeting also offered a valuable opportunity to hear directly from legislators about the challenges they face in addressing critical issues impacting local communities at the state level. They highlighted the difficulties in securing the necessary resources to address residents' most pressing concerns, citing shifts in federal funding and other budgetary constraints.
Suburban Ramsey Family Collaborative Quarterly Board Meeting
 As a board member of the Suburban Ramsey Family Collaborative (SRFC), Commissioner Jebens-Singh participated in the recent Quarterly Board meeting. The board voted in favor of an MOU between SRFC and the Ramsey County Mental Health Collaborative (RCCMHC), continuing the ongoing effort to providing comprehensive and accessible care to families in need.
Community Action Partnership of Ramsey & Washington Counties
On February 20th, Commissioner Jebens-Singh attended the Community Action Partnership of Washington and Ramsey Counties (CAPRW) Board Meeting, where she was officially seated as a new board member. During the meeting, the Commissioner expressed her enthusiasm for joining the board and her commitment to supporting CAPRW’s mission of empowering families and individuals in need throughout the region.
Landmark Center & County Courthouse Tour
    Commissioner Jebens-Singh also had the opportunity to tour the Landmark Center, and the County Courthouse as part of her onboarding process.
County Government 101
 A week after taking her seat in office, Commissioner Jebens-Singh attended a conference hosted by the Association of Minnesota Counties, which provided her with valuable insights into her responsibilities as a newly elected County Commissioner.
The conference offered a comprehensive overview of the county governance structure and best practices, equipping her with essential knowledge to better serve her community. In addition to the educational sessions, the event presented an excellent opportunity for networking, allowing Commissioner Jebens-Singh to connect with fellow County Commissioners from across the state.
Legislative Conference
 This past week, Commissioner Jebens-Singh attended the Association of Minnesota Counties Legislative Conference. There she had the opportunity to connect with Rep. Moller (HD40A), Rep. Curran (HD36B), Rep. Finke (HD66A), and Rep. Hollins (HD66B). During this conference, Commissioner Jebens-Singh engaged in meaningful discussions surrounding the county's legislative priorities for the upcoming session.
Her presence at the event facilitated productive conversations that underscored the importance of having Ramsey County’s voice and needs visible to legislators. As the legislative session approaches, ensuring that the county’s priorities are clearly communicated is crucial. This proactive visibility helps keeps the position of the county a priority in their discussions and decision-making processes. The conference was a vital platform for fostering these connections and strengthening the county’s presence at the state level.

Ramsey County Adult Detention Center
 Commissioner Jebens-Singh participated in a tour and discussion at the Ramsey County Detention Center to gain a deeper understanding of its daily operations and the challenges it faces. During the visit, the Commissioner was briefed on the facility's current procedures and observed the complexities involved in managing the center, particularly with regard to the growing number of individuals with mental health concerns. The Commissioner expressed concern over the implications of this trend, emphasizing the importance of developing a more comprehensive mental health care system that alleviates the burden on detention facilities and better addresses the needs of individuals with mental illness in the community.
NAMI Film Screening
 Commissioner Jebens-Singh was honored to deliver a welcoming introduction at the recent NAMI film screening "Into the Light." The film provided an in-depth examination of some of the most pressing challenges in mental health, particularly the barriers to treatment faced by some of the most vulnerable individuals in our communities.
Through powerful storytelling, the documentary highlights the journey to recovery, emphasizing the role of education, the medication clozapine, and advocacy in overcoming obstacles to mental health treatment. Overall, the film reaffirmed Commissioner Jebens-Singh's commitment to advancing mental health initiatives and ensuring that all individuals receive the care and support they need to thrive.
Mental Health Day on the Hill
 Commissioner Jebens-Singh had the opportunity to attend Mental Health Day on the Hill at the Minnesota State Capitol. At the event, she engaged with Rep. Moller (HD40A), Sen. Marty (SD40), mental health advocates, health professionals, and others who are deeply committed to enhancing services that ensure better access to care and support for individuals facing mental health challenges.
Martin Luther King Day
 Commissioner Jebens-Singh celebrated the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. by attending two events in our community. First, at the Mounds View Lions’ Martin Luther King Jr. celebration, the Commissioner joined local residents in a variety of activities such as packing snack packs, making blankets, and knitting.
Later, Commissioner Jebens-Singh attended the "Many Faces, One Dream" event in White Bear Lake. The event provided a powerful platform for dialogue and unity, fostering a deeper understanding of the work that still lies ahead in creating a more inclusive society.

Hmong Chamber Gala
 Marking the 50th anniversary of the Hmong community’s contributions to Minnesota’s workforce, Commissioner Jebens-Singh attended the 2nd Annual Hmong Chamber Gala. The event sponsored by Ramsey County Inclusive Workforce brought together community leaders, advocates, business professionals, and elected officials to recognize the Hmong community’s impact in the state socially, culturally, and economically.
Throughout the evening, attendees celebrated the resilience and entrepreneurial spirit of the Hmong community, reflecting on their achievements over the past five decades. Commissioner Jebens-Singh expressed her appreciation for being invited to the event to commemorate the history of the Hmong community in Minnesota.
Ramsey County Inclusive Workforce Summit
 Commissioner Jebens-Singh attended the Ramsey County Inclusive Workforce Summit at the Minnesota Science Museum. The event focused on the critical issues of developing new talent pipelines and advancing inclusive hiring practices within various industries by bringing together a diverse group of leaders, innovators, and professionals dedicated to improving workforce diversity.
Throughout the day, Commissioner Jebens-Singh engaged in a panel discussion and several breakout sessions. The Commissioner’s participation afforded her a deeper understanding of the practical solutions organizations can implement to create more diverse and inclusive hiring practices.
Ramsey County "Construct Tomorrow" Career Exploration Fair
 Commissioner Jebens-Singh attended a "Construct Tomorrow" event, an exceptional initiative aimed at inspiring and connecting youth with career opportunities in the skilled trades. Hosted by Ramsey County Workforce Solutions, the event bridged the gap between young people in the Ramsey County area and the wide-ranging opportunities within the trades sector.
Through a strategic partnership with local schools, students explored hands-on career experiences including laying concrete, cutting tile, and operating heavy machinery through advanced simulator programs. Commissioner Jebens-Singh found the event to be an enriching experience, as it highlighted the importance of creating accessible pathways for youth into high-demand, well-paying trade industries.
Coffee with a Cop
 Commissioner Jebens-Singh also participated in two "Coffee with a Cop" events hosted by the Ramsey County Sheriff's Office in Arden Hills and North Oaks. These events are designed to foster open lines of communication between law enforcement officers and local residents, creating opportunities for dialogue based on mutual trust and understanding.
Both gatherings were well-attended, offering community members a chance to engage directly with law enforcement in an informal and welcoming setting. Commissioner Jebens-Singh found the events to be a valuable platform for building stronger community connections and promoting transparency between law enforcement and the people they serve.

Kindergarten Card Party
 Commissioner Jebens-Singh had the pleasure of attending a wonderful Kindergarten Card Party at the Maplewood Library. The event allowed children along with their families, the opportunity to sign up for free library cards, receive a complimentary book, and engage with a children's storybook author.
It was truly heartwarming to witness the community coming together to support the development of young readers and instill a lifelong love of learning. Commissioner Jebens-Singh was enthused by the event as it not only promoted access to books but also highlighted the importance of libraries as vital community hubs for education and personal growth.
Minnesota Ice Swim
 Commissioner Jebens-Singh had the honor of attending the inaugural Minnesota Ice Swim event, held on Lake Johanna in Arden Hills. This historic competition marked an exciting milestone, as organizers are working towards making it the first IISA-sanctioned ice swimming event in the United States. The event attracted over a hundred swimmers from around the globe, including Olympic athletes and renowned competitive ice swimmers.
The competition featured 25-meter, 50-meter, and 100-meter races, all held in a 25-meter pool carved directly into the ice of the lake. As one of only two competitive ice swims in the U.S. and one of just a few in the world, Commissioner Jebens-Singh was excited to witness such a remarkable event that not only showcased the resilience and spirit of these athletes but also highlighted Arden Hills as a hub for unique and world-class sporting events.
