There's LOTS TO LOVE about the progress so far
Ramsey County has been hard at work leading the effort for enhanced transit along the Riverview Corridor. The modern streetcar is a critical aspect of enhanced transit, with a lot to offer individuals, businesses, communities and our environment. Benefits like better access to destinations, increased property redevelopment and reinvestment, vastly improved road and bridge infrastructure and a safer, more inviting pedestrian environment.
With significant support from federal funding, the streetcar project has much to get excited about:
- Replacement of the 60-year old Fort Road/Hwy 5 Bridge featuring a new structure with a top deck, resulting in improved and accessible pedestrian and cycling connections to Historic Fort Snelling and the Sam Morgan Regional Trail.
- More stops for better connections and access, including new stops at Historic Fort Snelling, the Blue Line Fort Snelling station and Terminal 2 at the MSP Airport.
- Improved transit connections to jobs, education, health care, entertainment, shopping, dining and more.
- Multiple transit options for all, including equitable access for riders with mobility devices and bicycles.
- Enhanced traffic calming with more signals at intersections for safer street crossings.
- Full road reconstruction for a smoother, safer and more accessible West 7th Street.
- Bustling streetscape plans providing more inviting ways to visit corridor businesses.
- Increased park space around the chapel at Fort Snelling.
- Increased property values, incentives for redevelopment of vacant and underutilized properties, increased jobs and job vitality.
