Statewide prevention of wasted food and food rescue grants

Organics make up about one third of the municipal waste stream in Minnesota. In line with the waste hierarchy, it is first preferable to prevent wasted food, followed by donating food to people. For this reason, this grant focuses specifically on prevention of wasted food and food rescue.  The majority of the food Minnesotans throw out — about 62% — could have been eaten or donated, according to an MPCA-commissioned study of solid waste in 2019 and 2020. Preventing wasted food has positive economic, environmental, and social impact.

Review the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency website for more information.

Grant applications due:  Thursday, May 2.

Roseville Area Community Foundation grant opportunities

The Roseville Area Community Foundation welcomes grant requests from a variety of local community organizations, from fraternal and service organizations, to churches and schools, for projects which will primarily benefit the community of Roseville and closely related north suburban communities.

Application deadline: Monday, May 20

Food Recovery Grant opportunity

Ramsey-Washington County Recycling and Energy Food Recovery Grants are now open! These grants support programs that recover surplus, edible food from businesses, organizations and/or farmer’s markets for distribution to people in need. Recovery Grants are open to businesses (food donors, including food producers, distributors, grocers and cafeterias), nonprofit organizations and college food shelves in Ramsey and Washington counties.

Applications due: Friday, July 19

Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) Brownfields

MPCA provide supports to investigate sites previously impacted by hazardous materials for reuse as community gardens and/or urban agriculture sites. The work is performed by MPCA contractors at no cost to the grant recipients.  Visit the MPCA’s Brownfields grant page for more information.

Applications are reviewed on an ongoing basis.

Please contact the Food Security Coordinator with any questions.
