Yesterday, I took part in a press conference in support of a bill that would address the primary issue that lead to delays in the Lexington Ave project in Arden Hills and Shoreview. Unmarked or poorly marked utilities led to cost overruns for taxpayers, a doubled project timeline, and significant negative impacts on neighborhood residents and businesses. Thank you to Associated General Contractors of Minnesota, Rep. Kraft, and Sen. Hoffman for leading this effort and allowing me to share how failure to act could hurt other communities. Check out this video from KARE 11 for more information about the bill and highlights from the press conference.
Thank you to all my constituents who have reached out about the release of cost estimates for transit options on the Riverview Corridor. While I support the county’s plan to gauge public opinion before making a final decision, my opinion is that we should be doing everything possible to deliver efficient and effective transit options at the lowest cost and best value to our residents. For this reason, I favor the BRT option considering the substantial differences in cost, increased efficiency, and the on-going flexibility and resiliency that BRT offers. I look forward to hearing the results of public engagement and continuing this conversation with my colleagues this year. I encourage you to share your thoughts with staff at one of the open houses or public engagement events. If you prefer to reach out to me directly, I will compile all comments I receive from constituents to share with staff. Your feedback can be sent to district1@co.ramsey.mn.us.
Earlier this month, I held a virtual meeting to discuss swan deaths caused by the use of lead tackle on the north side of Sucker Lake and what we as a community can do to help solve the problem.
The Star Tribune has a great write-up of the meeting, which you can read here.
If you were unable to attend the meeting but want to provide feedback please take the County's survey on this topic.
Last week, I had the opportunity to attend a meeting of the Women's Community Group - a gathering of judges, attorneys, and formerly incarcerated women - to listen to participant stories and take part in the group discussion. It was an enlightening and impactful conversation and I am grateful that I was able to participate.
