You’re invited to our next progress meeting
The next Policy Advisory Committee (PAC) meeting will be held on Jan. 31, from 9:30 to 11 a.m. in the Red Cap Room at Union Depot. Ramsey County staff and supporting partners will present detailed information about streetcar alignment options under consideration. The public is welcome to attend in-person. The full agenda and presentation materials are available online. Future project updates will be available at riverviewcorridor.com.
The PAC will meet again on Feb. 29 to review the Arterial Bus Rapid Transit (ABRT) option and the results of the Economic Development Assessment. The Station Area Planning team prepared an analysis of the potential future fiscal impact of four development scenarios along the West 7th Street and Downtown sections of the Riverview Corridor.
- The first scenario assumes future development as if there was no streetcar or bus rapid transit.
- The second scenario assumes future development will occur with a streetcar present, using estimates from experiences in other cities.
- The third scenario assumes ABRT development.
- Finally, a similar methodology will be used for analysis of a greenway on the Canadian Pacific Railway spur.
Meeting presentations along with a meeting summary and public comments can be found in the Riverview Corridor project library.

Classics along the corridor
(Image: Cossetta's Eatery & Pizzeria)
West Seventh Street is a treasure trove of time-honored restaurants representing the history, cultures, families and great food along the corridor. Check out these classics:
Cossetta's Italian Market & Pizzeria
Since 1911, Cossetta’s has been a neighborhood staple. Pizza, mostaccioli, farfalle, cheese, cheese and more cheese. Mama Mia! The Italian marketplace section is well stocked with imported groceries and the pasticceria is a dreamy delight of tiramisu, cannolis, cream puffs, homemade gelato and more.
Burger Moe's
Established in 2010, Burger Moe’s is located in the heart of Saint Paul. Just walking distance from the Xcel Energy Center, it’s a great place to go before the big game or concert. You’ll find everything your burger-hungry tummy desires, from a standard cheeseburger to a lamb kofta burger to vegan options and more.
Downtowner Woodfire Grill
The Downtowner only served breakfast and lunch for its first 12 years but after extensive renovations, they broadened their menu. Today, you’ll also find a wide variety of delicious dinner options made in their ancient fire-roasted cooking style. Seafood, steak, pizza and authentic fire-roasted flatbread made daily is just a sampling of what you’ll be tempted by at the Downtowner.
DeGidio's
Serving classic Italian food since 1933, DeGidio’s is the legacy of Joe “Kid Bullets” DeGidio, a prolific bootlegger in the 1920s and ‘30s. Today, Italian lovers can enjoy stromboli, blackened shrimp alfredo, tortellini bolognese and much more. Fun fact: DeGidio’s is owned and run by Kid Bullets’ grandchildren.
Mancini's Char House & Lounge
Mancini’s opened on West Seventh more than 70 years ago. This classic supper club has been family owned and operated for generations. Charbroiled steak is a menu favorite and, of course, that can be accompanied by lobster tails, baked potatoes and those great old fashioned relish trays.
Women’s hockey is back…with a vengeance
The Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) kicked off the year with a Minnesota home opener at the Xcel Energy Center on January 6. The action was ice shattering and the energy was high. In fact, this game set a professional women's hockey attendance record with 13,316 fans.
Team Minnesota includes elite players native to the state, such as former Olympians Lee Stecklein of Roseville, Kelly Pannek of Plymouth and Grace Zumwinkle of Excelsior. Zumwinkle scored a hat trick in the first game, thrusting Minnesota to a 3-0 shutout against Montreal. Another local favorite is former Gopher star and the league's first overall draft pick, Taylor Heise.

High flying color along the corridor
(Image: Kaleidoscope by artist Christopher Lutter-Gardella)
From the Mall of America to the Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport to the Union Depot, Riverview Corridor has some of the coolest art in the Twin Cities.
The spectacular installation suspended from the atrium skylight at the north entrance of the Mall of America is thanks to local artist Christopher Lutter-Gardella. Produced from mainly upcycled materials, Lutter-Gardella’s team created a thing of carbon-minimizing beauty. 600 spoons were used to create the eyes of the smaller butterflies, which in turn surrounded a breathtaking 30-foot butterfly. This masterpiece, which also tells the story of the decline of the monarch butterfly, is called Kaleidoscope.

Another colorful Minnesota artist, Josie Lewis created the Minnesota moth & butterfly murals at the Minneapolis Saint Paul International Airport (Concourse F, Gate 4). The project consisted of two mosaics, 100 sq ft each, made with over 200,000 recycled half inch square glass tiles depicting 18 moths and butterflies found in Minnesota.

Union Depot showcases a flamboyant mural created in Lite-Brite bulbs. Designed by local Saint Paul artist Tacoumba T. Aiken, it features over 600,000 bulbs and stands at 24 feet wide by 9 feet tall. The Forever Saint Paul artwork hangs in Union Depot’s concourse and is the largest Lite-Brite picture in the world, according to Guinness World Records.
