MRC Volunteer Spotlight: Pat Tommet

pat

Pat is a pediatric nurse practitioner who worked in leadership positions at Children's Hospitals of Minnesota and at the Minnesota Department of Health. At MDH, Pat led the development and implementation of the post 9/11 Healthcare Emergency Preparedness Program for the State of Minnesota. One of the programs under her leadership was the Emergency System for Advance Registration of Volunteer Health Professionals (ESAR-VHP).  During this time, many local Medical Reserve Corps were developed.  It seemed natural to Pat to sign up for the Ramsey County Medical Reserve Corps (RCMRC) after her retirement in 2010.  Due to some health concerns, Pat did not become an active member of the of the RCMRC until SARS-CoV-2 arrived.  After COVID-19 vaccinations were available, Pat joined a large contingent of COVID-19 RCMRC vaccinators.  Last Fall, Pat and other RCMRC volunteers also began administering influenza vaccines, which continues today.  Having worked in state government, Pat is impressed with the organization and function of the RCMRC and looks forward to more opportunities to volunteer with them in the future.  It has been an honor to be part of the pandemic response in Ramsey County and the RCMRC provides Pat with the opportunity to give back to the State of Minnesota.

MRC STTRONG Grant

The Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) applied for a federal grant to support Medical Reserve Corps organizations throughout the state. The state, with collaboration from the University of Minnesota, was awarded $2,440,694.

This money will update our current MNResponds system to a new platform and set aside additional dollars to local jurisdictions for the grant term ending 5/31/2025. Saint Paul - Ramsey County Public Health's funding allotment is $84,296. We will be looking at ways to spend this money on initiatives, training, and community engagement activities directed by you all. We will be discussing the particulars of this grant at our board meeting today. I will be sending out those notes along with the grant spending parameters next week for you all to view. Please reach out with ideas for using this money.
