Stay cool in the heat

extreme heat tips gif

As the weather heats up, keep in mind these tips to stay cool in the heat:

  • Drink more water than usual and don’t wait until you’re thirsty to drink more. Water is better at cooling your body than drinks with sugar.
  • Use sunscreen.
  • Limit outdoor activity, especially midday when the sun is hottest.
  • Wear loose, lightweight, light-colored clothing.

During extreme heat, check on relatives, neighbors, older adults and other vulnerable community members to ensure they are staying cool and hydrated. Those at highest risk include people 65 and older, children younger than two, and people with chronic diseases or mental illness.

Help stop the spread of aquatic invasive species

Clean In Clean Out

Aquatic invasive species, such as zebra mussels, often hitch a ride on our watercraft and trailers, and then are unknowingly transported from one lake to another.

Parks & Recreation has an app and number of free tools at several boat launces to help residents keep watercraft free of aquatic hitchhiker.

Celebrate local artists on June 3

Park signage open house

Ramsey County Parks & Recreation and Metropolitan Council teamed up with five artists - Andrés Guzmán, CRICE, Marlena Myles, Xee Reiter and Witt Siasoco - to develop five unique designs to welcome park users and create a sense of belonging for all.

All are welcome to attend the Parks Signage Open House on June 3 at Keller Regional Park and hear from the artists. This brief program will be followed by a family-friendly afternoon of food, art, nature activities such as artist-designed seed packets, nature crafts, button making and more to celebrate the artists and their contribution to our parks.
