As cold weather sets in, some hazardous waste generators burn used oil as a source of heat. While this practice is allowable, it’s important to understand the safety implications, recommendations and (sometimes complex) regulations. Here’s what you need to know.

Closing, moving or new ownership? Let us know.

It’s important to let your hazardous waste inspector know about major changes in your business. Contact your inspector as soon as possible if any of the following applies:

Your business is closing.
Your business is moving.
Your business is changing ownership.

Your inspector will assist you with changes in your hazardous waste license.

Save the date: Jan. 18 annual report workshop

Please save the date for an optional in-person workshop on hazardous waste annual reporting. This workshop will provide an opportunity to receive hands-on, real-time technical assistance from our inspectors as you fill out your 2022 hazardous waste annual report. Multiple time slots will be offered. Stay tuned for this free event.

Staff spotlight: Intern Kaylee

Kaylee Long, a recent graduate at St. Catherine University, joined the Solid & Hazardous Waste Team in March. As an intern, her responsibilities include conducting inspections (specialty in retail and vehicle maintenance shops), completing data requests, managing database documentation and more.
When she’s not at work, Kaylee enjoys hunting, fishing and attending Minnesota Wild hockey games whenever she can with family and friends. Keep up the great work, Kaylee!

BizRecycling helps businesses, non-profits, schools, apartment buildings and institutions in Ramsey and Washington counties reduce waste and recycle better.

BizRecycling Waste Reduction & Innovation Grant
Ramsey/Washington Recycling & Energy offers funding to support businesses, non-profits, schools and colleges to implement projects that prevent waste.

Business Pollution Prevention Program
Ramsey/Washington Recycling & Energy offers funding to dry cleaners, auto body shops, industrial painters and printers to switch to safer chemicals and modern equipment.

Deconstruction Grant
Commercial properties in Ramsey County can receive up to $10,000 for projects that use deconstruction/salvage techniques.

MPCA Grants & Loans
The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency offers grants and financial assistance for environmental projects in Minnesota.
