Commissioner McGuire with County Leadership Team

Across our district, the leaves are turning such gorgeous reds, oranges, and yellows. I was glad to get a chance to enjoy the fall weather this week while attending a Ramsey County all employee recognition event at Long Lake Regional Park in New Brighton. I really enjoyed connecting with so many incredible Ramsey County employees. We are so lucky to have such impressive, engaged staff across all of our service teams and departments.

Earlier this month, we heard from each department about their performance measures at our Supplemental Budget hearings. It was exciting to hear how different programs are serving Ramsey County residents. I am thankful to be a part of a county that is great - not because we are perfect, but because we are striving to be great and identifying where we need to improve. It's exciting to see the meaningful progress we are making toward our vision of a being a vibrant community where all are valued and thrive. I appreciate all of our county workers as they serve the community and contribute to that effort. You can read more about the Supplemental Budget hearings and find links to video below.

Ramsey County is holding both virtual and in-person meetings. Our board meetings are taking place in the County Board offices in the Ramsey County Courthouse. My office continues to serve constituent needs via phone (651-266-8359) or email (caitlyn.duin@ramseycounty.us).

Sincerely,

Mary Jo

Supplementary Budget Hearings

Ramsey County values infographic - people, integrity, leadership, equity, community

Ramsey County runs on a biennial operating budget, meaning that our budgets run for two years. 2023 will be the second year of our current budget. In preparation for the second year of a budget, we hold Supplemental Budget Hearings. These hearings are an opportunity for the county leadership and the County Board to monitor revenue and expenses as well as improve financial management and strategic planning. In other words, we check in on how things are going and if there are any substantial gaps, propose a path forward. We also look at performance measures to see how programs are progressing toward our shared strategic goals.

These hearings are public and available still for you to watch:

  • September 6
    • County Manager presents 2023 supplemental budget, reports from County Assessor, County Auditor, Policy & Planning Director and Chief Financial Officer.

    • Health and Wellness
    •  Economic Growth and Community Investment
  • September 13
    • Safety and Justice

Upcoming Important Dates in the 2023 Supplemental Budget Schedule:

  • November 28, 5:00 - 6:30 PM
  • December 6, 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM
    • Supplemental Budget Addenda

We are committed to making it easier and more convenient to recycle in Ramsey County. Part of that effort is opening an Environmental Service Center that will be a one-stop shop for many waste reduction and recycling services.

We are at the start of this planning process. Please join us at a Community Open House this month to learn more about the proposed Center and share your feedback on how it can best serve our community's needs!

Guidelines for Ramsey County Homebuyer Assistance Program are Expanded!

Owning a home is one of the best ways to build wealth. Ramsey County has been expanding our efforts to make affordable homeownership a possibility for all. One way we are working to help make affordable homeownership accessible and improve housing stability throughout the county is by adding new and more inclusive guidelines to our FirstHome homebuyer assistance program. The FirstHome homebuyer assistance program will now assist both low-to-moderate income first-time homebuyers and first-generation homebuyers who are looking to call suburban Ramsey County home.

Fall leaves - red, orange, yellow

Fall cleaning? Got yard waste? Here are tips to avoid a wait!

As you're getting your yard ready for winter, you might generate some yard waste. You're not the only one! Ramsey County yard waste sites experience heavy traffic during the fall. To avoid a wait, consider the following tips:

  • Visit yard waste sites on Mondays, Wednesdays or Fridays. Avoid the first hour of opening since there is almost always a rush. If you need to go on a weekend, Saturday mornings between 9:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. can be less busy.
  • Avoid fall weekends with warm, dry weather.
  • Visit the sites during cold or rainy weather or when the Vikings are playing.
  • If possible, hold on to your collected yard waste until the end of the season. Traffic at the sites decreases significantly after the third weekend in November.

Please note that off-season hours are December through March, and yard waste sites are only open on weekends during those months. Click here to view yard waste site locations and hours.
