Community garden producing more than produce
Mary Moua and her family have gardened for three years at Rivoli Bluffs Farm & Restoration Site, a three-acre community garden established by Saint Paul nonprofit Urban Roots. Don’t feed the birds: Keep our waterfowl healthy by not feeding them human food
For generations, families have enjoyed bringing stale bread to feed ducks at the local park or pond. Ducks, swans and other waterfowl have certainly enjoyed the free food as well. While it may seem like a less wasteful and helpful way to dispose of old food, feeding waterfowl can actually be harmful for the birds, other wildlife and the environment.

Don’t trash it – fix it! New videos series helps you learn simple fixes for everyday items
Even though the Fix-it Clinics have been on hold during the COVID-19 pandemic, our Fixers have kept busy. We’re excited to introduce our repair video series in partnership with Washington County! Our collection of how-to videos shows viewers how to make simple repairs on everyday items. Join Maggie and Linda as they show easy mending projects, such as replacing a button or sewing on a patch. Or join Jim and Gordon as they replace a lamp socket and clean an oscillating fan.
The repair video series is meant to educate and inspire Ramsey County residents to think twice before throwing a broken item in the trash.

Safely dispose of propane tanks
Lots of summer grilling and camping leave you with used propane tanks?
Don’t put them in the trash or recycling. They can cause a fire or an explosion.
Even if they seem empty, some propellent (a chemical used to push the propane out of the tank) is always left inside.
Twenty-pound tanks used for grilling can be exchanged at a local retailer for a full tank. If you do not want to do an exchange, bring your old tank to a Ramsey County household hazardous waste collection site for free.
We accept all sizes of propane tanks, empty or full, including the one-pound propane tanks used for camping stoves. Visit our website for locations and hours.

Reducing the threat of jumping worms at yard waste sites
Jumping worms are invasive and destructive worms that can quickly kill garden plants and damage lawns and soil. One way they can be spread is by moving dirt. For this reason, dirt and plant material at our yard waste sites are not available for residents to take home.
Starting in 2022, we will not allow residents to drop off dirt at our White Bear Township site. You can refer to our AtoZ Recycling and Disposal Guide to find other disposal options for dirt.
