Overnight lane restrictions, temporary closures planned on Interstate 694 early next week
Traffic in both directions of Interstate 694 will encounter overnight lane restrictions and temporary closures April 6-8 at the I-694/Rice Street interchange in Shoreview, Vadnais Heights and Little Canada. Construction crews will install beams for the new northbound side of the Rice Street bridge.
Overnight lane restrictions on eastbound and westbound I-694 will begin at 10 p.m. Monday, April 6. Beginning at 11:30 p.m., the Minnesota State Patrol will temporarily stop traffic in each direction for up to 15 minutes while bridge beams are lifted into place over eastbound I-694. Both the lane restrictions and closures will be complete by 5 a.m. Tuesday, April 7.
Westbound I-694 will close to traffic at 10 p.m. Tuesday, April 7. Traffic will be detoured via the I-694 exit and entrance ramps at Rice Street, and the Minnesota State Patrol will control access to I-694 from Rice Street. I-694 will reopen to traffic by 5 a.m. Wednesday, April 8.
Reconstruction of the I-694/Rice Street interchange began in March 2019 and is expected to last through late 2020. The project will improve traffic flow in the interchange and create better pedestrian and bike facilities along Rice Street.
