Ramsey County Youth Works! would not be possible without the continued support of the Steering Committee, which is compromised of a number of school districts, government and community organization partners. We thank the Steering Committee for their time, dedication and commitment to this work! Their efforts have guided and shaped everything from the mission and vision to this newsletter. - Less than 5% of jobs in Manufacturing, Public Administration, Management and Utilities are held by young adults (ages 14-24).
Youth Works! Partner: Mounds View Schools
Featured Employer: MN Trades Academy
Rachel, a recent graduate of Irondale High School, participated in the MN Trades Academy (MTA) program during the summer of her junior high school year, through a partnership with Mounds View Schools. MTA is a paid summer construction internship experience for high school youth. The goal of the experience is to help youth prepare for adulthood through life-long learning, skill development, and access to good jobs with good benefits in the construction industry. MTA aspires to provide rich, educational hands-on experiences for participants that help youth learn about construction as a career choice. In addition to MTA, Rachel participated in a number of tech education courses including Welding and Construction Solar Energy. She is now considering a career as an electrician. Explaining the variety of activities that she experienced in her internship, Rachel said:
“I walked on steel beams at the boilermakers, made a tubing system at the plumbers’ union and cut steel with the iron works”.
