Meet with Commissioner Frethem at Office Hours in District 1

Commissioner Frethem has scheduled in district office hours to make your county government more accessible. Stop by to share concerns, questions, or get to know the Commissioner. In January, she will be available:

January 17 at Tamarack Nature Center from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm.

January 23 at the Ramsey County Library in Mounds View from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

January 26 at the Ramsey County Library in Shoreview from 2:00 pm to 3:30 pm.

January 26 at the Vadnais Sports Center in Vadnais Heights from 4:00 pm to 5:30 pm.

If you would like to have a one-on-one meeting, contact the Commissioner's office to schedule a time and location.

I am profoundly grateful to the residents of District 1 and honored to serve as your county commissioner. My goals for my first year are to build strong relationships and partnerships within the community at the municipal level with the county. I also hope to to build knowledge of what Ramsey County does for residents so that we can work to be more effective and engaged in our service delivery.

Commissioner Frethem Sworn In

New Ramsey County Commissioner for District 1, Nicole Joy Frethem, was sworn in to office on November 20, 2019 at the Ramsey County Library in Shoreview. The event was open to community members and held in the evening for accessibility.

2020-2021 Budget Approved

Commissioner Frethem attended the Twin Cities North Chamber of Commerce Legislative breakfast on December 20, 2019, where Ramsey County Manager Ryan O'Connor presented on the 2020-2021 budget process and economic development initiatives along with Anoka County leadership.

The Ramsey County Board voted to approve the 2020-2021 budget at the board meeting on December 17, 2019. Commissioner voted for the budget after sharing her thoughts on the budget's strengths, weaknesses and areas for future investment. Her full statement can be read on the District 1 Facebook page.

Service Team Tours

In her first month as Commissioner, Nicole has been getting to know Ramsey County staff leaders and department functions in depth.
On December 6, 2019, Commissioner Frethem toured several Ramsey County facilities with Parks and Recreation staff and got to drive a Zamboni at the Vadnais Heights Sports Center.

Out in the Community

Commissioner Frethem is committed to engaging with residents in the community. In the first month Commissioner Frethem has attended various community events including:

  • Vadnais Heights Economic Development Corporation annual dinner;
  • Shoreview Community Foundation dinner;
  • Aquatic Invasive Species forum; National Adoption Day;
  • Hmong New Year Opening Ceremony;
  • Tamarack Nature Center volunteer dinner;
  • Water Gremlin community meeting;
  • Lakeshore Players annual Gala;
  • Ramsey Washington Metro Watershed District executive meeting;
  • Arden Hills Parks and Trails meeting; and,
  • Gingerbread house building at Ramsey County Library in Shoreview.
