I-694/Rice Street Interchange Updates

Roundabout open at I-694/Rice Street interchange

The new roundabout located on the north side of I-694 is now open. Traffic may currently proceed through the roundabout to continue on Rice Street or to access the new westbound I-694 entrance ramp.

As part of the new interchange design, this roundabout will control all traffic entering and exiting I-694. Directing all interstate traffic to one roundabout will allow motorists to get on and off the interstate more quickly. The roundabout will also create less backups than traffic signals by keeping traffic moving continuously through the interchange.

Country Drive open to traffic

Country Drive between Rice Street and Spruce Street has reopened to traffic.

All-way stops remain in place at the Vadnais Boulevard/County Road E and North Owasso Boulevard/Country Drive intersections. The roundabouts at these intersections will open in 2020.

Exit ramps to Rice Street to open next week

The east and westbound exit ramps from I-694 to Rice Street are expected to open to traffic next week ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday:

  • The westbound exit ramp is expected to open Monday by the end of the day.
  • The eastbound exit ramp is expected to open Tuesday by the end of the day.

Please note the ramps will likely not be open until after the evening commute.

The eastbound I-694 entrance ramp from Rice Street will remain closed through summer 2020.

Short-term spring 2020 closure for westbound exit ramp

Due to the cold and wet weather conditions this fall, we were not able to complete concrete paving on the new westbound I-694 exit ramp to Rice Street. The ramp has been temporarily paved with bituminous to allow us to open the ramp to traffic throughout the winter. We will need to close the ramp for a short period in spring 2020 – likely a few weeks – to install the concrete pavement. Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding.
