I-694 is scheduled to be closed June 28-July 1 between Snelling Avenue and Rice Street for work on the I-694/Rice Street interchange reconstruction project.
The closure will begin Friday, June 28 at 10 p.m. and includes both east and westbound I-694.
I-694 will reopen by 5 a.m. on Monday, July 1.
The closure is necessary to allow construction crews to install support beams on the west side of the Rice Street bridge over I-694 and the new eastbound I-694 exit ramp to Rice Street.
Three more weekend closures of this stretch of I-694 are planned for later this year and early 2020 to remove the existing Rice Street bridge and to install additional support beams for the new interchange bridges.
Detours
Eastbound motorists will be directed to follow the posted detour of southbound Interstate 35W to eastbound Highway 36 to northbound Interstate 35E, then east on I-694.
Westbound motorists will be directed to follow the posted detour of southbound I-35E to westbound Highway 36 to northbound I-35W, then back to westbound I-694.
Motorists should plan ahead for additional travel time and use an alternate route when possible.
