2019 property valuation notices and tax statements mailing mid-March

Annual property valuation notices and tax statements for 2019 will be mailed to Ramsey County property owners in mid-March. Valuation notices include your property classification, estimated market value and taxable market value, which is used to determine property taxes payable in 2020.

Question or appeal your valuation

Please review your valuation notice carefully. If you believe there is an error, now is the time to appeal or question your classification or valuation. It will be too late to appeal when proposed taxes are mailed in November. The first step in the process is to contact the Assessor’s Office about your questions or concerns at 651-266-2131.

If you still have questions after speaking with the Assessor’s Office, you may attend an Open Book meeting in April at the Plato building. Open Book meetings will be held April 2 from 10 a.m. – 7 p.m. and April 3 from 8:30 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Prepare for increased spring flood risk

The recent record-breaking snowfall has created an increased risk of major flooding this spring across Ramsey County and all of Minnesota. Many homes and apartments that have never experienced flooding may have issues this year.

Emergency Management & Homeland Security encourages homeowners, renters and businesses to review their current insurance policies and consider adding flood coverage. The time to act is now; there's a 30-day period before policies go into effect.

The Mississippi River banks are an official flood plain, but flooding can also happen in our community along creeks and streams, low-lying areas, drainage ditches, lakes or anywhere snow melts too quickly or rain falls too heavily.

pot hole season

See a pothole? Report it!

Ramsey County Crews are working to address potholes across the nearly 300-mile county road system. Pothole repair is prioritized based on the severity of the potholes and the road’s traffic volume. Large potholes or a significant series of potholes on heavily trafficked streets are repaired first.

Our maintenance team is routinely monitoring several stretches of roadway that are in particularly rough shape. The patch material available for use this time of year only lasts a few days under current weather conditions. Potholes will improve and repairs will last longer in the weeks ahead as roads are able to dry out from the spring snow melt.

Consider using alternate routes when possible to avoid rough areas.

We appreciate your help in identifying problems on county roadways. Use our online reporting form to submit a problem to our maintenance team. Items will be added to our repair list based on priority.

Board Adopts 2019-2023 Transportation Improvement Plan

The Transportation Improvement Program consists of a five-year schedule of projects developed by assessing the condition of the existing system. The program identifies county road projects for implementation based on community input and financial resources. Projects are prioritized for implementation based on technical analysis, employee resources, existing roadway conditions and opportunities for project coordination with cities or the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

The Transportation Improvement Program is reviewed annually. Additional projects are added to the program based on funding analyses.

Ramsey County has a cost participation policy designed to equitably distribute the cost of construction and major maintenance projects between the county and partner communities. County cost participation continues to increase as pedestrian, bicycle and transit features are added to the roadway system.

Estimated costs identified in this program are based on construction of similar roadways. Expected costs of engineering and right-of-way acquisition are included in the project estimates.

Future road projects in planning and design stages include engineering and community engagement work. Current road projects include maintenance and reconstruction.
