          A Message from Your Commissioner

          Dear constituents,

          Happy July!

As we get into the full swing of summer, I hope you begin to take part in the many fun events that our community offers.

I love attending the community festivals, parades, and local farmers markets. Summer is always a great time to utilize our Ramsey County library facilities and our beloved county and city parks.

Roseville, Mounds View, Little Canada, New Brighton, and Lauderdale all have festivals this summer which is a time to celebrate and gather as a community.

For kids, the Ramsey County Historical Society’s Gibbs Farm has fun Day Camps for kids throughout the summer.

Thanks so much for reading, enjoy the newsletter!

              Road Closed

Road and Lane Closures from Minneapolis to Roseville

Summer road work is upon us. See below for the July road and lane closures between Minneapolis and Roseville.

Lane Closures: June 27 through Fri, Oct. 12. NB I-35W reduced by one lane between 4th St. and Co. Rd. C
Road closures include NB I-35W between 4th Street and County Road C from 10 p.m. Friday, July 13 through 5 a.m. Monday, July 16.

Both directions of I-35W will be closed between 4th Street and County Road C from 10 pm Friday, July 27 through 5 am Monday, July 30.

              Long Lake Road Resurfacing

The surface layer of the roadway on Long Lake Road between County Road H2 and County Road J in Mounds View will be removed and replaced with new, smooth pavement in 2018. Pedestrian curb updates are complete.

The road will be restriped to add bike lanes. As a result, parking will be removed on the east side of the roadway.

              Timeline
Paving is nearly complete. Stripes and updated signs will be added to the road the week of July 2. Work is expected to be complete by July 6.

              Detours
Motorists should use alternate routes during construction. Driveway access will be maintained throughout the resurfacing.

              Bike lanes
The striping changes and new bike lanes on the roadway reflect the goals of the Ramsey County's Pedestrian & Bicycle Plan to make the community walkable and bikable for people of all ages and abilities. Bike lanes will assist in creating a safe transportation system for bicyclists, pedestrians and motorists by providing a separated and designated travel space in the roadway.

              Old Highway 8 Resurfacing

The surface layer on Old Highway 8 between Long Lake Park and County Road H will be removed and replaced with new, smooth pavement in 2018. The roadway will be reconfigured from 4-to-3 lanes north of Highway 96.

Ground-in, high-durability stripes will be added to the road. This type of road marking requires a 10-day wait between the completion of resurfacing and the installation of the stripes.

New accessible ramps for pedestrians have been installed.

Land surveying crews will be working in the project area before, during and immediately after construction.

              Timeline
Work is underway and is expected to last until mid-July.

              Detours
Lane closures will be in place.

City of Roseville Raises the Age to Buy Tobacco to 21

On June 18, Roseville became the 11th city to change the age to buy tobacco to 21 years old. The Minnesota Department of Health relates an increase use of tobacco in schools by the popularity of e-cigarettes. Also in this study it was found that 59% of 18 and 19 year olds had been asked by someone younger to buy them cigarettes.

This is an ongoing public health issue being addressed at the city level.

This vote will take 30 days to go into effect, beginning mid-July.
