          Workshop Recap

Each newsletter, we will highlight recent workshops that the County Board held. These workshops are a way for the board to learn and discuss current issues the county is working on.

          Talent Attraction, Retention, and Promotion

The county is proud of their many dedicated and passionate employees, and has comprehensive plans to make sure they are comfortable and happy in their workplace. Ramsey County surveyed and interviewed a large proportion of staff and took their feedback to create a better work environment in various offices. Moving forward, Ramsey County is focusing on recognizing their employees for accomplishments and dedications. In addition, they are working on new job classifications and simplifying mobility and pathways to promotions.

Community Spotlight: Northeast Youth and Family Services

Commissioner McGuire is a member of many boards and committees; one board she sits on is for Northeast Youth and Family Services (NYFS). NYFS is a non-profit that works to provide youth and family services to community members throughout the northeast and metropolitan areas. Some services they provide include mental health services, leadership skills, employment training programs for youth, and senior chore services. NYFS links youth and families with seniors in the community to help seniors remain independent for as long as possible, while also building community, trust, and employment skills for youths. Commissioner McGuire represents the community on the board of NYFS.

            Ramsey County Workhouse Tour

On Thursday, April 5th, members from the District 2 office and students from the University of Minnesota took a tour of the Ramsey County Correctional Facility, which is also referred to as the Workhouse. The Workhouse has many programs that work very closely with the community to help inmates have successful lives after serving their sentences. Some of the services that Ramsey County provides are leadership programs, various classes, classes to help inmates earn their GED, and sign up for insurance after their released. Ramsey County continues to make sure that the facility is as efficient as possible; because of their low numbers, the Workhouse is turning empty dorms to classrooms where correctional officers can teach classes.
