Did you know?
In
addition to collecting leaves, grass and other soft plant material, Ramsey
County’s Arden Hills, Midway, Frank & Sims, and White Bear Township yard
waste sites accept tree and shrub waste. Trees and shrubs are dropped off
in a separate area at those four sites. Once there is enough collected for
grinding, a contractor grinds it into mulch - which happens about every five
weeks during the growing season. Some mulch is left behind for residents to
take for free and use in their yards. The rest is delivered to the St. Paul
Cogeneration – District Energy plant for use as fuel in producing electricity
and heating.
Each year, Ramsey County collects enough tree and shrub material
to fill over 450 semis with mulch! Visit the University of Minnesota Extension
website for information on the benefits of mulch and how to use it.
