Success Story:
Warners’
Stellian Saves Money with Simplified Recycling Program
When
Warners’
Stellian wanted to improve recycling at their Saint Paul
headquarters, they contacted BizRecycling for help.
BizRecycling works with interested businesses of all sizes in Ramsey and
Washington counties to start or improve their recycling or organics programs.
BizRecycling’s
experts helped Warners’ Stellian replace their complicated recycling system
with a simple, single-sort recycling program. A BizRecycling Grant paid for custom
recycling bins for the facility. Warners’ Stellian also decided to phase out
disposable breakroom supplies in favor of reusable dishes and cutlery. These
simple changes are saving the company over $2,500 a year.

Reuse: Give Unwanted Textiles a Second Life
Did you know that 85 percent of textiles and apparel are not
recycled or donated? Instead ,they’re thrown in the trash – to the tune of 70
pounds per person per year! Think reuse first by donating to consignment stores
or secondhand shops. To make it easier to get these items to the right place, some
cities now collect textiles and household items at the curb with three easy
steps:
- Put clean, dry household textiles (including
linens/bedding, shoes and accessories) in a bag.
- Label it “household goods”.
-
Place it
next to your recycling cart for easy pick up.

household goods and clothing, check out the A to Z Recycling and Disposal Guide

Did you know?
From 2008 – 2015, Ramsey County reduced its energy use by 20
percent in county run facilities. Thanks to the Ramsey County Board of Commissioners
and staff leadership, improvements in facility operations and infrastructure
were made to see this reduction. At a recent board workshop, the Ramsey
County board re-affirmed its commitment to energy efficiency and renewable
energy as part of the county’s broader goals of well-being, prosperity,
opportunity and accountability. Staff will continue to make energy
efficiency improvements that help control costs and reduce overall energy use
in the county.
