Success Story:
Visiting Ramsey County? You can recycle here!
Each
year, thousands of visitors walk through Ramsey County’s doors to conduct
official business, participate in an arena event, work on their golf game, take
in the history of Landmark Center, catch a bus or train at Union Depot or check
out library books. While visiting a Ramsey County facility, you will find recycling
bins in lobbies, concessions areas, libraries, meeting rooms and other public
spaces. We are proud to offer convenient opportunities for the public to
recycle bottles, cans and paper when they visit our facilities.
News You Can Use:
What to Do with Needles and Syringes
Do you have needles or empty syringes? Don’t put them in the
trash or recycling; they can harm sanitary workers. Bring them to Ramsey
County’s year-round and mobile household hazardous waste collection sites for
free. Transport your empty needles and syringes in an empty laundry detergent
bottle or similar container with a screw-on lid.
If you have syringes or epinephrine pens with medicine,
bring them to a medicine drop-off site. For locations and preparation
instructions, go to RamseyRecycles.com/medicine. If you have questions, please call
651-633-EASY (3279), which is answered 24/7.
Did you know?
Giving
Old Mattresses a Second Chance
Most unwanted mattresses in Minnesota end up in the
landfill. Did you know they can be recycled? Some mattress stores will
take your old mattress when they deliver your new one. If not, bring your old
mattress to Second Chance Recycling. Employees at this Minneapolis-based social
enterprise will break down the layers of your old mattress for a fee. The
foam is made into carpet pads and the cotton is used to soak up small oil
spills in North Dakota.
Last year, Second Chance Recycling recycled over
55,000 mattresses while also providing green jobs that help people build
skills. They are located at 1179 15th Ave. S.E. in Minneapolis. For hours and
fees, visit www.secondchancerecyclingmn.com or call 612-332-0664.
