PUC approves Minnesota Energy Resources Corporation Energy’s natural gas rate case settlement
St. Paul, Minn. — On Thursday, the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission (Commission) approved Minnesota Energy Resources Corporation’s (MERC) natural gas rate settlement. Under the agreement, MERC will receive an annual $21.24 million increase. This final agreement is a reduction from the Company’s initial $32.76 million request. This is MERC’s first base rate increase since 2018.
Ratepayers will see a refund as approved rates are lower than the 2022 interim rate increase. The refund amount will be determined in the coming months.
Parties to the settlement are MERC, Minnesota Department of Commerce, Minnesota Office of Attorney General, Citizens Utility Board of Minnesota, LIUNA, Local 49, and the Clean Energy Organizations (CEO). Organizations that together make up CEO are Fresh Energy and Minnesota Center for Environmental Advocacy.
