Minnesota Governor Tim Walz has announced plans to move the dial toward reopening the state and introducing more social interaction – Stay Safe MN. Beginning Monday, May 18, retail stores and main street businesses are permitted to reopen if they have a social distancing plan and operate at 50% capacity. In addition, Minnesotans may gather with friends and family in groups of 10 or less with safe social distancing practices in place.
Walz also announced that his administration is gathering guidance for safely reopening bars, restaurants, barbershops and salons beginning June 1.
I am proud of the Plymouth community – and I appreciate the tremendous patience residents have exhibited as we navigate this situation together.
Doing Business with the City
Remember that City of Plymouth staff is here for you – and all departments continue to provide service. You can do business by phone, online, email and by appointment. We’ve also modified some city services to allow for pickup and drop-off. While we may not be able to interact with you face-to-face yet, we are open.
Whether you’re working on a house project and need a building permit, seeking a volunteer opportunity to keep your family engaged, looking to sign up for a virtual dance class to stay active at home, or have questions – we are able to help.
Planning for Reopening Procedures
The City of Plymouth is planning and preparing for reopening procedures at city offices and facilities, once it's safe to do so.
We’re looking forward to reopening, and we’re taking the time to be prudent. Staff is developing processes to conduct safe in-person appointments, promote social distancing in our facilities and incorporate technology to enhance convenience, efficiency and safety for customers.
While the city does not determine the timeline for reopening businesses in the community, we recently conducted a FlashVote survey to learn how residents feel about businesses reopening. Economic development staff will share the survey results with local businesses during informal outreach. We hope businesses find the information helpful as they plan to safely reopen their doors.
Supporting Local Restaurants and Businesses
Remember that it’s more important than ever to shop and eat local. As retailers begin taking appointments and opening their doors for customers, shop Plymouth first. And if you’re able, please continue to order from Plymouth restaurants. View a webpage that lists restaurants available for delivery, curbside pickup and takeout.
The city’s economic development staff also continues to assist businesses facing difficulty. View a webpage with coronavirus resources for businesses/employees.
Finally, as Plymouth continues rising to meet new challenges, I want to express my appreciation for the people of this community. We continue to rally together in spirit, encourage one another, volunteer, support local restaurants, help our neighbors and treat each other with kindness and patience. Thank you for making Plymouth a fantastic place to call home.
Stay well,
Mayor Jeff Wosje
