About the Teacher Supply and Demand District Survey

The Professional Educator Licensing and Standards Board (PELSB) is required to survey districts on the supply and demand of teachers in Minnesota, in accordance with Minnesota Statutes 122A.091 subdivision 5. The collected data is compiled in the biennial PELSB Supply and Demand Report, a comprehensive look at educator supply and demand across licensure areas, teacher demographics, and region.

This year’s survey will collect data from SY2023-2024 and SY2024-2025. For this survey, please use PELSB’s start and end dates for the school year, July 1-June 30. This survey helps PELSB to understand information about the district that the currently collected data cannot provide.

This email and survey link are being sent to the email addresses listed on the contact lists from MDE-ORG for District Business Manager and Superintendents/Directors for School Districts and Charter Schools.

This survey should be completed by one person per district, ideally the individual with the most involvement in district-wide hiring.

Please Complete the Supply and Demand District Survey by September 26, 2025

The survey is a Google form. Please reach out to PELSB’s data team at datarequest.pelsb@state.mn.us with questions regarding the survey. PELSB apologizes for the quick turn around during this busy season for districts and we appreciate the time taken to provide this key data.

Work Group

Please note, the survey includes a question regarding a work group for the supply and demand district survey. One goal of the work group is to determine the optimal time of year to distribute this survey. Communications about this work group will be sent in early winter.

Future District Surveys

After receiving feedback from districts on the challenges involved in retroactive data extraction, PELSB will administer surveys to districts annually, rather than biennially, beginning with school year 2025-2026. This change will help districts purposefully plan for data collection every year.
