Public comment period for proposed State Implementation Plan revision

The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) today published notice in the State Register of a proposed revision to the State Implementation Plan (SIP) relating to transportation planning.  Comments and requests for a public meeting on the proposed revision are being accepted until December 15, 2014 at 4:30 p.m.  The proposed SIP revision and related notice can be viewed on the MPCA Public Notice Webpage.

The proposed SIP revision is intended to fulfill Minnesota’s “transportation conformity” responsibilities under the Clean Air Act (CAA).  Under the CAA, states must ensure that transportation activities do not cause new violations of the National Ambient Air Quality Standards.  States must include in their SIPs methods of collaboration amongst the agencies that have responsibilities related to air quality and transportation.  This document incorporates these procedures into Minnesota’s SIP.
