Technical
staff and health staff from the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) and
the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH), along with representatives of General
Mills and their consultants, will be holding community “office hours” in the
Como neighborhood of Minneapolis over the next two weeks.
Residents in
this area have been asked to respond to a threat of trichloroethylene (TCE)
vapor gases which may be seeping into their homes properties and residences
from a polluted former General Mills property.
“The office
hours are intended to bring our services directly to our customers and offer
some one-on-one conversations,” says Hans Neve of the MPCA. “We want to answer
as many questions as possible for residents, clarify any misunderstandings, and
keep putting out good information so we can continue to gain testing and
mitigation access.”
Representatives
from the MPCA, MDH, Barr Engineering, and General Mills will be available in
the Southeast Como neighborhood on three days this week and next to answer any
questions, address concerns, and make the sampling and mitigation access agreements
available to review and sign. The format will be like an open house: attendees
may come whenever they are available at any point during the times listed
below.
