The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) has completed its annual review and update of the soil reference values (SRVs). As a reminder, SRVs are risk-based screening values used to evaluate potential risk from exposure to contaminated soil. They should be used in conjunction with other relevant site-specific information when evaluating potential risk exposure pathways. One new chemical (Perfluorodecanoic acid, “PFDA”) has been added to the SRV spreadsheet, and changes were made to the SRVs for 13 chemicals. The changes made during the 2025 annual review are summarized in the table below, along with the reason for the change.
Edits have also been made to the SRV Technical Support Document. The specific edits made are listed in the beginning of the document, under “revision history”.
The updated SRV spreadsheet and technical support guidance are now live on the MPCA website at https://www.pca.state.mn.us/business-with-us/MERLA guidance. If you’re not seeing the new 2025 version when you download it from the website, you may need to clear your browsing history, reopen your browser, and try again.
