Under the new law (Minn. Stat. § 325E.3892) which went into effect July 1, 2023, a person or business cannot import, manufacture, sell, hold for sale, distribute, or offer products in 15 listed categories containing lead at more than 0.009 percent by total weight (90 parts per million) or cadmium at more than 0.0075 percent by total weight (75 parts per million).
The covered products were not further defined in the statute, so the MPCA and its partner agencies have developed guidance to provide further clarification. That guidance is now available on the MPCA website Protecting children and families from lead and cadmium.
Please forward this to others who are interested, and we encourage sign-ups for e-mail updates via the page above, under "Stay connected."
Thank you.
The mission of the MPCA is to protect and improve the environment and human health.
