Thank you for your interest and engagement in the MPCA’s wild rice sulfate implementation plan. The agency is taking numerous measures to ensure thorough communications and transparency around this plan. We are extending and coordinating the review time to provide feedback on all the written materials through Sept. 4, 2023. Due to the extended review, we’re moving the final informational meeting from Sept. 6, 2023, to Sept. 27, 2023.

Site-specific standard framework and permitting implementation materials review periods extended to Sept. 4

The MPCA has extended review time to provide feedback on the site-specific framework through Sept. 4, 2023. Please provide feedback on the site-specific framework via the MPCA’s public comment web page

To align the review periods and minimize confusion, MPCA is also extending the feedback period for the fact sheet titled Minnesota Wild Rice Sulfate Water Quality Standard NPDES/SDS Wastewater Permit Implementation and the document titled Procedures for implementing the Class 4A Wild Rice Sulfate standards in NPDES wastewater permits in Minnesota. We encourage you to ask questions and provide feedback on these documents by Sept. 4. You can email questions to: Wastewater.Permitting.MPCA@state.mn.us.

All of these documents are available on the MPCA’s Protecting Wild Rice web page.

Final informational meeting moved from Sept. 6 to Sept. 27

Due to the extended review timeline, our final informational meeting, previously scheduled for Sept. 6 at 1 p.m., is moving to Sept. 27 at 1 p.m. This meeting will be an opportunity for MPCA staff to respond to questions received on why, where, and how the agency intends to address the current sulfate standard for wild rice waters through the NPDES/SDS permit program. We will also have a University of Minnesota Natural Resources Research Institute representative present research on sulfate-reducing technologies. Please register to receive a link to the meeting.

Thank you again for your continued engagement on this topic.
