Dear Contractor:

IF YOU TEST, REPAIR OR INSTALL CATHODIC PROTECTION SYSTEMS ON UNDERGROUND STORAGE TANKS IN MINNESOTA, PLEASE DO NOT DELETE THIS MESSAGE.

The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency has recently created a guidance document titled “Guidelines for the Evaluation of Underground Storage Tank Cathodic Protection Systems”.  The manual is intended to serve as a thorough guideline to help those who test, repair and install cathodic protection systems.   There are many informational discussions in the manual that may be helpful, along with checklists, charts, forms, and troubleshooting tips.

The new manual, along with the new cathodic protection testing forms are now available on the website at http://www.pca.state.mn.us/index.php/waste/waste-and-cleanup/waste-management/tank-compliance-and-assistance/underground-storage-tanks-ust/underground-storage-tank-ust-systems.html?menuid=&redirect=1  The new CP guidance manual and  new CP forms are located approximately half way down the page under the section “Cathodic Protection Systems”.

Also, I would like to inform you that the Steel Tank Institute (STI) will be having a training session on trouble shooting cathodic protection systems.  The one day session is in Wisconsin in on April 12, 2012.  There is also a STI Tester Certification Course on April 10 and 11 in Wisconsin as well.

The National Association of Corrosion Engineers International (NACE) also has excellent training and certification courses available throughout the year.  Please visit http://www.nace.org/home.aspx for more information.
