Revised Soil Reference Value for Benzo(a)pyrene Equivalent!

Carcinogenic polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are common in historical urban fill due to a variety of sources, including incomplete combustion of organic matter, coal tar, asphalt, and creosote. The MPCA has revised the benzo[a]pyrene (BaP) soil reference value (SRV) for commercial/industrial land use to be 23 milligrams per kilogram (mg/kg). No change has been made to the BaP SRV for residential/recreational land use, which remains at 2 mg/kg.
