Project 1007

Project 1007 is a large flood control project for the Tri-Lakes Area — lakes Jane, Olson, and DeMontreville. It is a system of stormwater pipes, open channels, catchbasins, and two dams that direct the flow of water from the Tri-Lakes area to the St. Croix River. A provision in the 2018 3M Settlement requires the MPCA and DNR to investigate Project 1007 to better understand how it might be contributing to PFAS contamination in the East Metro area.

The project is looking into the connections between surface water and groundwater from Project 1007. Once the investigation is complete, the data collected will be used for feasibility studies to evaluate potential mitigation efforts.

Learn more about it on the project's webpage — https://3msettlement.state.mn.us/project-1007.

In February 2018,  Minnesota and the 3M Company settled their lawsuit regarding natural resource damages associated with a group of chemicals known as PFCs. 3M is making a grant of $850 million as a condition of the settlement to address two priorities in the east metro area. Priority 1 is safe drinking water and groundwater sustainability. Priority 2 is restoring and enhancing natural resources.
