3M East Metro Settlement Updates

Agendas for May work group meetings now available

Agendas for the May 14 Citizen–Business Work Group meeting and the May 15 Government and 3M Working Group meeting are now available on the 3M Settlement website. The agenda for the May 15 Drinking Water Supply subgroup is available there, too.

The agendas for the main work groups are the same. They'll be discussing how to cover long-term operation and maintenance costs and the process for proposing concept level project ideas for the Conceptual Drinking Water Supply Plan, among other things.

All meetings are open to the public and time is reserved for questions and comments from attendees.

Rescheduled 3M Settlement meeting for local elected officials

The Minn. Pollution Control Agency and Minn. Department of Natural Resources had originally scheduled a 3M Settlement update meeting for local elected officials back on April 11, but had to cancel it due to bad weather. This meeting has been rescheduled for Wednesday, May 29, at Park High School in Cottage Grove from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. The address of the school is 8040 80th St. South.

The primary purpose of this meeting is to update local elected officials on the creation of a Conceptual Drinking Water Supply Plan for the East Metropolitan Area. The plan will offer direction on how to provide clean, sustainable drinking water while addressing each affected community’s needs now and into the future. It will also take into account both public water systems and private well users, using an area-wide approach.

In February 2018,  Minnesota and the 3M Company settled their lawsuit regarding natural resource damages associated with a group of chemicals known as PFCs. 3M is making a grant of $850 million as a condition of the settlement to address two priorities in the east metro area. Priority 1 is safe drinking water and groundwater sustainability. Priority 2 is restoring and enhancing natural resources.
