3M settlement public meeting in Cottage Grove April 3

A reminder that the first of three public meetings on the 3M settlement takes place tomorrow in Cottage Grove from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. It's being held at Park High School located at 8040 80th St. S.

At these meetings, Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) and Department of Natural Resources (DNR) staff will give an overview of the recent settlement with 3M, and explain the process by which potential water quality and natural resource projects will be prioritized and selected for funding. Staff from the Minnesota Department of Health will also be on hand to answer health-related questions.

The meeting will start with a half-hour open house, followed by a short presentation by state agencies at 6:30, ending with Q&A and more open house time. All members of the public are invited to attend.

Joint MPCA/DNR website now online

A new joint website is now online allowing for easier access to information about the recent 3M settlement — 3MSettlement.state.mn.us

Updates will be posted regularly as workgroups of stakeholders and technical staff are formed to provide recommendations on priorities and projects to be funded with money from the state’s settlement with the 3M Company.

In February 2018, Minnesota and the 3M Company settled their lawsuit regarding natural resource damages associated with a group of chemicals known as PFCs. 3M is making a grant of $850 million as a condition of the settlement to address two priorities in the east metro area. Priority 1 is safe drinking water and groundwater sustainability. Priority 2 is restoring and enhancing natural resources.
