A special
half-day, hands-on mini-pumper training course designed for SSTS maintainers is
being offered Dec. 11 at the MPCA office in Rochester. No registration is required and there is no fee for the training.
MPCA staff will cover:
- Federal 503 requirements
- record-keeping
requirements
- The role of MPCA staff and what
they expect
- A theoretical land application scenario walk-through and what every maintainer needs to have with them
The class will start promptly at 8 a.m. Dec. 11 and run to noon. Following
the class there will be time for individual questions and helping
participants with any record-keeping questions/issues they may have. The class will be held in the MPCA office in Rochester, 18 Wood Lake Drive Southeast.
The December edition of the SSTS Bulletin will include information about nine additional opportunities to attend this training in 2018 at various locations across the state. Future sessions may require registration.
MPCA staff identified a need for this training after finding some consistent problems during inspections that resulted in enforcement actions. MPCA staffer Steve Oscarson said a common corrective action listed in those cases was "return to maintainer class."
"We saw an opportunity to expand the compliance piece of our work and provide additional education in a non-enforcement environment," says Oscarson. "And we felt we could provide that additional education now that we have more compliance and enforcement staff."
If you have questions, contact Steve Oscarson or by phone 507-206-2604.
