April 5, 2015 was the start date of the 2015-2020 industrial
stormwater permit. If you had the old
2010 permit and have not yet applied for the 2015 permit, you are now an unpermitted facility and out of
compliance. Apply now.
With the new permit, there are several things to know about
the 2015-2020 sampling requirements:
-
No sampling requirements until July 1: Quarterly sampling begins July 1, 2015 (quarterly for a minimum of 1 year), and there are no sampling requirements between April 5-June 30th.
-
Review your monitoring locations: If you need to make any changes to them, make the changes before July 1. Any monitoring location changes made after your quarterly sampling has begun will re-set your monitoring calendar and any results to zero and you will need to start over.
-
Attend U of M training:The U of M is offering the following training workshops: 1. Sampling and Monitoring: Arden Hills May 21, 2015, 2. Sampling and Monitoring: St. Cloud June 3, 2015, 3. Sampling and Monitoring: Farmington June 4, 2015, 4. IndustrialStormwater Regulations, SWPPPs, Sampling and Monitoring: Arden Hills July 27, 2015, 5. Sampling and Monitoring: Arden Hills Sept. 22, 2015. For more information or to register for these workshops, view/download the registration form.
-
Review your sampling requirements: If you do not know what your sampling requirements are: look on your coverage card to find your Industrial Subsector(s), go to the Benchmark Monitoring Requirements page or the Effluent Monitoring Requirements page and look at the appropriate subsector information, or; read the sector-specific chapter(s) within the industrial stormwater permit (pages 30-136).
-
Consider practicing your sampling techniques: Consider practicing sampling between now and July 1 by having a mock sampling event on a rainy day when stormwater is flowing through your monitoring location. This will help you ensure that a. you have all of the equipment ready, and b. staff are properly trained to collect samples. Check your sampling equipment or contact your testing laboratory for sampling testing kits.
-
Sampling forms: Sampling forms will be available around July 1. Industrial Stormwater program staff will send an email to the Permittee’s “site contact” when the forms are available.
MN’s Water Sector Survey: Be counted!
The state is conducting an analysis of the economic impact
of Minnesota's waters. As part of the work, pease fill out a short survey (5-10
minutes) to understand trends in water-related employment.
Your participation will allow the state to better understand
and articulate the importance of MN’s waters to the state’s economy. Survey
results will be only reported in aggregated form. No individual,
company-specific information will be published or released. To participate,
click the survey link.
Thank you so much for your response! Questions
