Construction on 54th Street “Triangle Park” Play Area delayed until spring
Minneapolis Park & Recreation Board sent this bulletin at 10/30/2014 09:15 AM CDTOn October 20, Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board staff rejected all construction bids for the 54th Street "Triangle Park" play area, located within Nokomis-Hiawatha Regional Park at 54th Street E and Edgewater Blvd. All five project bids significantly exceeded budget projections. Construction was expected to begin this fall with demolition of the existing play area. It will instead begin in the spring of 2015.
MPRB staff and consultants are working toward rebidding the project in January, with several design modifications that are expected to reduce cost without noticeably changing the design concept. The concept was approved by the MPRB Commissioners on August 6, 2014, based on recommendation by an appointed Community Advisory Committee (CAC) and testimony at a public hearing.
The reconstruction of the play area will include entirely new play equipment and new walkways and benches. The project is funded by a grant from the Metropolitan Council as part of various improvements to Nokomis-Hiawatha Regional Park to take place over the next 2 1/2 years.
