It’s time to lace up your skates and tape those sticks – ice rinks will be open in Minneapolis parks beginning Saturday, Dec. 21, 2013. The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) has more than 45 ice rinks for skating, broomball, hockey and pond hockey at 22 parks citywide.
Weather permitting, all rinks and warming houses will be maintained and open through Feb. 17, with the exception of rinks at Bohanon Park, McRae Park, Lake of the Isles and Van Cleve Park, which are scheduled to remain open through March 2.
New this year, the skating rinks at Lake of the Isles, Lynnhurst Park, Matthews Park and Van Cleve Park, will be lighted until 9 p.m. on Sunday evenings (warming houses close at 6 p.m.).
Many of the 22 ice rink locations offer separate rinks for general skating and recreational uses such as hockey, broomball and pond hockey. All locations except Nokomis offer free loaner skates on a first come, first serve basis.
Rink status information is available online or by calling the MPRB ice rink hotline at 612-313-7708. Be sure to check out our printable rinks brochure. You can find complete MPRB rink information online by www.minneapolisparks.org/rinks or by signing up to receive email updates.
