MPRB Urban Agriculture Plan

The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) is developing a plan to address urban agriculture within the park system. While the park system currently provides related programs and services, the MPRB needs an overall plan to guide support and resources for the dynamic and multi-faceted practice of urban agriculture. The MPRB invites your participation through meetings scheduled in November and December and seeks a broad base of community opinion and experience to help shape the new Urban Agriculture plan.

Urban agriculture encompasses far more than private and community gardens, and is acknowledged as having a connection to the larger food system, as well as influence and dependence on a variety of economic, environmental and social resources. The sustainability of urban agriculture practices aligns with MPRB core values and highlights the importance of developing a plan to address community needs.

The MPRB, in consultation with the community, wishes to develop a plan that will define the unique contributing role of the parks, identify partnership opportunities, and recommend strategies to enhance services that meet the needs of Minneapolis residents and park visitors.

Public meetings are scheduled for the following dates and locations:

November 13, 3:00-4:30 p.m. Logan Rec Center 690 13th Ave NE
November 15, 6:00-7:30 p.m. Linden Hills Rec Center, 3100 43rd St W
November 17, 10:00-11:30 a.m. MPRB Headquarters, 2117 W River Rd
December 3, 6:00-7:30 p.m. Farview Rec Center, 621 29th Ave N
December 4, 6:00-7:30 p.m. Nokomis Rec Center, 2401 E Minnehaha Pkwy

In addition to your involvement, the plan will rely on the contributions from interest groups, elected officials, and individuals within advisory committees. This outreach will serve to ensure that the direction and content of the Plan is authentic, informed, and supportive of the needs of park users and visitors.
