Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board hosts 2026 MLK Day events, programs and food drive
 Enjoy powerful performances during flagship MLK Day event on Monday, January 19, 6:30-8 pm at MLK Recreation Center
Drop off non-perishable food at any recreation center to support YouthLink and Avenues for Youth
Honor the life and legacy of Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. at the annual MLK Day Celebration at MLK Recreation Center!
Join the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board for an evening of powerful performances and inspiring speakers on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Monday, January 19, 2026, 6:30-8 pm at Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Recreation Center, 4055 Nicollet Ave. S.
This year's keynote is community advocate, writer and educator Kenneth Foxworth. Entertainment will be provided by Known MPLS, a youth and young-adult choir in Minneapolis dedicated to uplifting voices and strengthening community through music.
We’ll also be presenting the Living the Dream Award to Cynthia Bryant, who has served as an essential presence and influential leader at Loring Park for the last 10 years.
Light refreshments will be available at the conclusion of the event, which is free and open to all.

Bring a Donation for the Food Drive
People are encouraged to drop off non-perishable food items at any MPRB recreation center through January 19.
The community service project was initiated in the fall of 2009. Since then, more than 15,000 pounds of donations have been collected. This year, all donations will go to YouthLink and Avenues for Youth.
Additional MLK Day Event at Powderhorn
In addition to the flagship event at MLK Recreation Center, the Powderhorn Park Neighborhood Association its 28th Annual Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. celebration at Powderhorn Recreation Center.
