Graco-Boom Island Trail Connection |
Plymouth Avenue Bridge reopens October 3
Overhead view of Graco-Boom Island trail construction at the Plymouth Avenue Bridge in September 2025
Trail underpass connecting Boom Island Park and Graco Park scheduled to reopen later in October
Plymouth Avenue Bridge reopens to vehicle traffic at the end of business day on Friday, Oct. 3, 2025.
The bridge closed in April 2025 for work on a new trail connection between Boom Island Park and Graco Park that travels under Plymouth Avenue on the Northeast Minneapolis riverfront.
The new trail underpass will open to pedestrians in mid-late October, after a concrete walkway is installed on the Boom Island side. Stay tuned for details on a grand opening event!
Bikers will be redirected to the new and improved street crossing at Sibley Street NE until the railing on the new Boom Island Marina bridge is complete. Project staff had problems sourcing product for the new marina bridge railing and are exploring alternate options, both temporary and permanent fixes, to get the bike route open.
Please follow onsite signs and stay off the trail until it opens. Do not move or go around fences or barricades.
A new trail will go underneath Plymouth Avenue and connect Graco Park to Boom Island Park along the Northeast Minneapolis riverfront.
Project Overview
A new trail travels underneath Plymouth Avenue and connects Graco Park to Boom Island Park along the Northeast Minneapolis riverfront.
Safety improvements to the intersection of Plymouth Avenue and Sibley Street NE are also part of this project. Sidewalk bump-outs narrow the distance to cross Plymouth Avenue and a flashing beacon alerts vehicles to people crossing the street.
At Boom Island Park, a new bridge over the Boom Island Marina and realigned paths leading up to the underpass are still under construction. The Boom Island Marina is closed until 2026 to accommodate construction activities.
When this work is complete, people will be able to run, walk or roll seamlessly on a completely off-road riverside trail that connects Sheridan Memorial Park, Graco Park, Boom Island Park and Nicollet Island.
City of Minneapolis Public Works also completed bridge maintenance this summer to help reduce future closures of the Plymouth Avenue Bridge.
