Join Us! Grand Opening at 28th Street Totlot - celebrate the new playground and other park improvements

After its closure for years due to a neighboring highway improvement project, 28th Street Totlot was in need of its own improvements!

Working with community members, the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) recently planned and constructed a new playground, landscaping and more.

Now we're ready to celebrate!

Join us to kick off the Whittier Alliance Ice Cream Social

  • Meet and hear brief remarks from local officials

MPRB: Al Bangoura, Superintendent; Cathy Abene, President; Elizabeth Shaffer, District 4 Commissoner
Whittier Alliance: Anna Schmitz, Executive Director

  • Participate in a ribbon-cutting ceremony and photos in the park

  • Admire the new mural created by Whittier kids

  • Enjoy ice cream, play time and social time at this newly improved park

MPRB thanks everyone in the Whittier community for their support during this park improvements project.

We extend special thanks to the Whittier Alliance for:

  • funding for installation of the park's mural
  • leading the park re-naming effort
  • ice cream!

Location & Parking

28th Street Totlot is on the south side of East 28th Street between Stevens Avenue South and I-35W.

East 28th St. is one-way going east.

Best parking options are on the north/south streets west of the park.

Improvements at 28th Street Totlot were funded by the 20-Year Neighborhood Park Plan, a historic 2016 agreement between the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) and the City of Minneapolis. NPP20 helps address racial and economic equity across 160 neighborhood parks and provides more than $11 million annually to maintain, repair and replace facilities.

Every neighborhood deserves a great park.
