Not a scientist? No problem! Everyone can find and record biodiversity in Minneapolis parks.
BioBlitzes are a fun, collaborative way to gather helpful data about species in Minneapolis parks. Naturalists from the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) and local experts are on hand to help volunteers observe and identify all kinds of organisms, from birds and fungi to plants, shrubs and trees.

BioBlitz Moth Nights
 We will use light sheets to draw moth species during these evening sessions led by Haleigh Ziebol, freelance naturalist, moth enthusiast and Wide Eyed Outside founder.
North Mississippi Regional Park - Monday, August 18, 8:30 pm to 10 pm
Minnehaha Regional Park - Friday, September 5, 8 pm to 9:30 pm
BioBlitz Dragonfly Snag and Spy
We will use aerial and sweep nets, and Minnesota Dragonfly Society experts will share tips on dragonfly ecology and how to identify them.
North Mississippi Regional Park Saturday, August 23, 2:30 pm to 4:30 pm

Mini BioBlitz: Insects
|
Use nets and bug jars to collect, observe, identify and then release insects.
Minnehaha Regional Park Sunday, August 24, 1 pm to 3 pm
Lake Nokomis Park Sunday, September 7, 1 pm to 3 pm

What happens at a BioBlitz?

Join friends, neighbors and others (you don't have to be a scientist!)

Explore and discover the biodiversity of Minneapolis parks

Collaborate with local experts and naturalists from the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB)

Identify as many plants, animals, and organisms as possible
-
Use microscopes, magnifying glasses, binoculars and other provided tools
-
Create a snapshot of the variety of life at a specific place and point in time
-
Contribute valuable data for scientists and researchers

All ages are welcome - youth under 14 must be accompanied by an adult
