Taxidermy display features cougar killed on Interstate 394, days after it was first spotted in nearby neighborhoods
Do you remember when Minneapolis residents began sharing video footage and images of tracks in the snow from a mysterious cougar in December, 2023?
Spurred by social media, drama quickly spiraled over the elusive big cat, also known as a mountain lion. It turned to tragedy when a vehicle killed it on Interstate 394 just north of the Kenwood neighborhood. Then came wonder and admiration as the animal's ear tag indicated it had traveled some 650 miles from Oglala National Grasslands in northwest Nebraska.
Now the cougar returns to Minneapolis as an educational taxidermy display, following community fundraising efforts that covered a portion of the cost.
Everyone is welcome to attend the April 26 unveiling and learn more about the cougar, the status of this species in Minnesota, and the taxidermy process.
