Diamond Sports Facilities Study is available with online feedback survey
Report offers direction for a broad range of initiatives regarding diamond sports in Minneapolis Parks
The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) conducted a Diamond Sports Facilities Study to assess baseball and softball fields across the Minneapolis park system and develop recommendations for their improvement.
Work was guided by a volunteer Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) comprised of local baseball and softball advocates, and staff from MPRB Planning, Athletics, Operations, and Asset Management Departments. The TAC met over a period of about ten months to develop guidance for the report. Thank you to all members of the TAC for their time, energy and insights!
The study examines and recommends standards for a variety of factors that impact the quality of the experience for users of these facilities, including:
Maintenance standards for each type of facility
Programming, access and use
Permits for recreation use
Distribution of facilities
Implementation of planned facilities, including timelines and funding opportunities
This is the first study in a plan to assess all athletic facilities in the Minneapolis park system and develop strategies for improving them. Studies on field sports, court sports and winter sports will be completed in order after diamond sports.
