Public Meeting planned February 11 to present study findings
Park Commissioners will consider options for The Mall Park at a Board meeting in early 2025
The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board is planning work at The Mall Park in coordination with an ongoing Met Council sewer project in the area.
Planned park improvements originally included a "Woonerf" street design, better connection to Midtown Greenway, and replacing two blocks of internal roadway with green space. These changes were first outlined as part of the Southwest Parks Plan, a cohesive, long-term plan for 40+ neighborhood parks completed in 2020.
In May 2024, MPRB Commissioners paused decision-making on implementing the plan (see Resolution 2024-85) in response to traffic and parking concerns raised by resident of East Isles and surrounding neighborhoods. Commissioners directed staff to review the proposed roadway changes with the City Engineer and Fire Marshall, and conduct a traffic and parking study to better understand how the changes would affect the neighborhood.
